With the many fires to the east and south of Wangaratta, one of the evacuation centres is the Wangaratta showgrounds. Over the weekend,of the 4th & 5th there were more than 200 people on site in caravans or tents. There are also two donkeys, three horses, 30 poultry, as well as dogs and cats staying with campers.
The Lions Shed has for the last several days been used as the main catering, and meeting place at the showgrounds.
This photo was Monday 6th lunchtime, with many evacuees enjoying chicken and salad, or a pie.
The last meal provided was lunch on Wednesday 15th. By then most had returned home, and the army was being relocated to the evacuation centre at Ovens, just south of Myrtleford.
